MG Joshua Chamberlain commanded the 20th Maine during the battle of Gettysburg. On July 2, 1863, his Regiment was tasked with holding the far left flank of the Union line on a small hill named Little Round Top. Against all odds and in the face of an unrelenting enemy, then COL Joshua Chamberlain led the defense of the key terrain and implemented audacious maneuver to counter the Confederate attacks. Despite being reduced to a few pieces of shredded cloth, at the end of the day, and after 130 casualties, the 20th Maine Regimental Flag remained posted atop the hill.
